I was at the Indy 500 in the late 80s and 90s; it was always a PARTY where the race happened to happen. The fans were not like Nascar fans. They were fallen down drunk, all the time. The golf course was a public outdoor pee course. And that was true in the golden era. The golden era was Michael Andretti vs Al Unser Jr.

It is hilarious to me how little the newer generation of "fans" actually know about racing and a driver so fragile that he refused his ride? LMAO! IndyCar has a problem. Well, many. But a major one is the fact it is barely a blip on the sports scene in America outside the Indy 500 and its image is not cool. I just talked to a couple of racing fans in a bar Friday night in California. The wife was wearing a Chase Elliott shirt and the husband was wearing a Kyle Larson shirt. Turns out they watched Indy this year because of Kyle's presence. They loved the race but the husband said, "the rest of the races are cookie cutter". The wife was brutal. She said she didn't even know there were other races and thought Indy 500 drivers were F1 drivers. And she said the IndyCar drivers were " twinks" whatever that is. Nothing can fix this series. They are like the 10th and 11th people I have talked to this year who either do not know it exists or do not like it. I have also heard a couple NASCAR fans call IndyCar fans "faggy". It is just awful. This whole thing is a mess. Maybe Fox can fix it.

The fact that IndyCar was on CNBC was not a surprise under these circumstances. Preferring NASCAR events over IndyCar events has happened for years. For example, NASCAR was at Texas this April and IndyCar was not. Therefore, this was not evidence that NBC has checked out on IndyCar. However, did anyone notice that every commercial on CNBC was a full commercial break and not side-by-side?

This is my first time watching your channel. It's great stuff; thank you. I am very impressed with your analysis of the race. And of IndyCar. One point I have not seen discussed is that Palou was in the danger zone for a few laps. There is no question that he deserved the win, but an untimely yellow could have really hurt his track position. So, I think it's fair to say that luck did play a role in his win. In effect, he gambled, and won. The other thing that really impressed me about this race was that there were no lap 1 collisions.

One thing that IndyCar (any US racing series - IndyCar, NHRA, IMSA, WoW, Stadium Trucks, Infinity, NASCAR, et al) has, by far, hands down, more fan access to drivers compared to F1 (F2, F3). Please don't screw that up or change it.

What happened they were supposed be on usa channel but the Nascar race. They suck not letting know where else able to watch it

I feel bad for everyone that has to deal with the shitty TV situations with delayed starts and ads every 5 minutes. I'm from Ireland and watch every single session on Sky Sports F1. We get the NBC broadcast but when it cuts to an ad on cable in the USA, we don't see the ads and continue to see the race broadcast, so we miss 0 action throughout the whole race. We have Tom Gaymor fill in on commentary for 3 or 4 minutes which is brilliant. So we get the full race with commentary the whole way through and absolutely no ads. I watch NASCAR sometimes online (it's on a different Sky Sports add-on package here which I don't pay for, I'm not a huge NASCAR fan) with the USA feed and the number of ads are insufferable. I'm kinda spoiled because I've had F1 for most of my life, and IndyCar in the past 6 or 7 years, without ads. Granted Sky Sports with the F1 channel add-on isn't free (or cheap) but it's 100% worth it. I get every full Indy NXT, F2, F3 and even F1 Academy session, plus other series like GT World Challenge Europe live without ads on it too. I'm a massive motorsport fan obviously but I likely wouldn't watch as much of it if there was even semi-frequent ads, not to talk about ads like every ten minutes or less. So for the more casual viewer it's definitely a turn-off. Just thought I'd share this as a lot of people probably don't know how it works for us here in Ireland. The UK get the same btw if they have Sky Sports F1. It's brilliant and I'll say a prayer for all of you who get dealt the shitty broadcasts lol. Don't know yet how the FOX deal is gonna work for me but I'm praying it stays ad-break free 😂 Also David I've been watching your IndyCar and IMSA stuff for years and you do a brilliant job so keep it up man and thanks for everything you do!

I have hated NBC's use of onscreen graphics since day one of their coverage, especoally with thew soundeffects. I try to concentrate on races and cannot.

I disagree completely about yellow procedure. If we have to close the pits, then leave them open so leaders aren't caught out. Generally it works great and we don't have losers like Huertas win on lucky yellows. It's the closest way we can get to not having races decided by who pit first during a cycle. Renders race strategy totally pointless. Get rid of the wave around while we're at it.

Idk why there's even any questions bout grosjean. Dude was fantastic early on with Dale coyne, and he's been good so far this season. He struggled with andretti sure, but the fact he doesn't struggle the same way with now 2 other teams.... leads one to question what it was with andretti that caused problems? Even rossi wasn't very good with andretti outside maybe his first year with them. Does coyne run Chevy engines? Had a thought maybe it's the Honda package he didn't gel with

If the yellow flag meant "stop" in the early days, what was the equivalent of the yellow flag, and how did it actually work? I know they didn't pack up behind the pace car til 1979 (having what was basically identical to Formula One's Virtual Safety Car with the almost-comical pacer light system in the 70s), but before that was it basically what we'd call a local yellow today or what?

As someone who has always enjoyed Indycar as well as F1. I am a petrol head and I do enjoy both. Indycar ts not F1. Its diferent and has a diferent vibe and can be great. However this year my interest in Indycar has wained. Apart from the 500 the other races have been marred by the cheating scandal and a series of races that became destruction derby's. I love wheel to wheel action but the standard of driving has gone downhill. I dont pretend to know all the rules but surely there must be a way to penalise drivers who divebomb corners. I watched the Indy NXT race at Detroit and to the standard of driving was far better than the so called superstars of Indycar. Add into that F1 is going through a purple patch of competitiveness with dead heats in qualifying for pole and last weekend .02 between pole and second and the next four only .026 between them. Then a race with wheel to wheel action but not a single red flag. The standard of driving was superb all shown ad free on one mainstream broadcaster. The days of Max dominance are severely under threat with new winners , especially Lando Norris. Every year Indycar seems to lurch from crisis to crisis. I do hope it can get its act together. It can be a great series but this year has been a poor advert and I fear for its future.

Bummer. I had no idea Indycar was shown on cnbc. They only said peacock and I don't pay for that. Why couldn't they have run a crawl saying something. I watched NH thinking it would only take them 20 min to get 40 laps in. Of course that didn't happen with the circus that is NASCAR. But a quick announcement or a simple crawl could've / would've been appreciated.

what was the attendance at the race looked like nobody showed up. forget the fake penske yellow. why no red flag at the end of the race instead of 10 laps of yellow. why did they throw a yellow for the rahal crash they were not no the track no safety problems. armstrong was on the track and no penske yellow. they should go back to cart rules set the number of pitstops and only green flag stops count. this fuel saving junk is not racing.
